What is burnout quietly costing your team?

Enter a few numbers about your workplace. The estimate updates as you go, and every assumption behind it is adjustable and explained below.

Gallup found about 23% of full-time employees feel burned out very often or always.

Adjust the assumptions

An estimate you set. 10% equals about half a day of reduced output each week.

Statistics Canada has historically reported about 9 days per full-time worker.

The share of staff who leave in an average year at your organization.

Gallup's range is 50% to 200%. The default uses the low end.

Behind the numbers

How this calculator works

The estimate adds up three costs that burnout creates. Each one is calculated only for the share of staff experiencing frequent burnout, so the result reflects the burnout gap rather than your whole payroll.

01

Reduced output

The share of salary lost while burned-out employees are at work but running low.

Burned-out staff × salary × productivity lost
02

Extra sick days

Gallup found burned-out employees are 63% more likely to take a sick day. The calculator adds 63% on top of typical sick days for that group.

Extra days × daily salary (salary ÷ 250)
03

Added turnover

Gallup found burned-out employees are 2.6 times as likely to be looking for another job. That extra likelihood is applied to your normal turnover rate.

Extra departures × cost to replace

Why the defaults are conservative

The 2.6× figure measures job searching, and not everyone who searches actually leaves. To balance that, replacement cost defaults to the low end of Gallup's range. The productivity figure is an adjustable estimate, since research on exact output loss varies widely.

The goal is a number a finance team can trust, so every assumption can be changed to match your own data.
